Nyesom Wike, ex-Rivers governor and current FCT minister, says the next round of political hostilities in Rivers State could kick off as early as January 2026.

Addressing leaders and supporters from Ahoada East and Ahoada West on Saturday, Wike said early-year politicking will start soon, a sign that the state’s political turbulence is far from settled.

He noted that some players are now professing loyalty to President Bola Tinubu even though they kept quiet when the 2023 campaign got rough. Wike claimed he and his backers stood by Tinubu “when it was risky to do so.”

Those who paid the price during the election “won’t be tossed aside,” he vowed. “Their effort will count.”

Wike also warned that deals must be honoured. “Agreement is agreement,” he said. “If you can’t keep it, don’t sign it.”

He told supporters there is “no need to panic,” promising they “will speak loud and clear at the right time,” and restated his loyalty to Tinubu.

The gathering in Ahoada East drew senior politicians from across the South-South zone.
