Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a defiant response to his father’s detention by the Department of State Services (DSS), insisting that his family harbours no fear and that the security agency should instead be the one alarmed.
The Kaduna lawmaker spoke shortly after the ex-governor was granted bail set at N100 million. In remarks that have since drawn widespread attention, Mohammed dismissed any suggestion of anxiety over his father’s safety, stating that the elder El-Rufai remains in good health and has complied fully with all bail conditions.
“I don’t fear. Mallam has his bail conditions set, he’s in good health, so I don’t know what this whole fear thing is about,” Mohammed said.
He went on to issue a direct warning to the security service, challenging any notion that harm might come to his father. “Whoever thinks something would happen to Mallam wrongly, we dare them. So, there is no fear. I am an El-Rufai, there are no fears. Let justice prevail.”
The younger El-Rufai also expressed the family’s full confidence in the legal process, underscoring that his father had met every requirement for bail. He added a broader observation on Nigeria’s evolving political and judicial landscape, saying: “The country has changed, and that’s my opinion.”
The defiant statement comes amid continued public concern over the former governor’s health and the circumstances surrounding his detention, notwithstanding his fulfilment of all bail conditions.
