•Lawmaker Pledges Stricter Laws Against Gender Violence
The House of Representatives is set to review and strengthen laws against rape and molestation following growing national outrage over violence against women and children.

Deputy Majority Leader Abdullhai Ibrahim Halims made the commitment yesterday at the launch of Jennifer Hembafan Alih’s powerful book “From Silence to Strength” during the one-year anniversary of “The Victoria Show” program.
“The House will address this through parliamentary action – by enacting new laws, reviewing existing ones, and making necessary amendments,” Halims declared. “While enforcement isn’t my direct responsibility, my duty is to ensure these laws are properly enacted.”

The book, described by the lawmaker as “a voice for those who have long been unheard,” features harrowing true stories from abuse survivors. Halims praised author Alih for her courage in breaking the culture of silence surrounding gender-based violence.

Alih, who hosts The Victoria Show, explained her motivation: “I’ve seen women suffer silently, children and men carrying unbearable burdens in silence. It’s time to encourage people to speak out, and for communities to listen without judgment but with compassion.”

The author issued a powerful call to action: “Violence is not inevitable. It can be defeated. Let us create the community we deserve – one free from violence where we live in peace with neighbors, family, and friends.”

The event highlighted growing cross-sector determination to address gender violence through legal reform, community engagement, and empowering survivors to share their stories.
