The United States has launched a series of coordinated strikes on key military installations and airports across Venezuela, marking a sharp escalation in already fraught relations between Washington and Caracas.
According to early assessments, the first phase of the operation focused on degrading the Venezuelan Air Force’s capacity to mobilise or retaliate. Multiple bases and runways were reportedly targeted in what analysts describe as a “pre-emptive disabling strategy”.
US officials have not publicly confirmed the full scope of the operation, but senior defence sources, speaking on background, suggested the strikes were aimed at “neutralising immediate threats” and reducing Venezuela’s ability to deploy aircraft.
Venezuelan authorities have condemned the attacks, accusing Washington of deliberate aggression and a violation of national sovereignty. President Nicolás Maduro is expected to address the nation as tensions continue to rise.
Regional observers warn that the situation could trigger broader instability in Latin America if diplomatic channels fail to reopen.
This is a developing story.
