Rev. Nick Donnelly , a Catholic cleric based in the United Kingdom, has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Nigerian Islamic scholar **Sheikh Ahmad Gumi**, citing what he described as “extremist and inflammatory” comments.

Donnelly made the appeal in a social media post on Monday, responding to recent statements by Gumi in which the scholar dismissed claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria. In a widely circulated video, Gumi was heard saying, “Herdsmen are not like the Indigenous People of Biafra; they are kidnapping children to make money. Let’s be fair with them.”

In his response, Donnelly accused Gumi of supporting criminal activities and called for his prosecution on charges of crimes against humanity.
“Gumi supports ‘herdsmen’, aka Islamist terrorists, kidnapping children to make money. The ICC needs to issue an arrest warrant… Gumi needs to stand trial in The Hague,” he wrote.

This appeal comes amid growing scrutiny of Gumi’s public statements and renewed calls for his prosecution. The recent life sentence handed to **Nnamdi Kanu**, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on terrorism charges has further fueled debate over Nigeria’s justice system.

Prominent Nigerian lawyer **Malcolm Omirhobo** recently criticized what he termed a “two-tier justice system,” arguing that while some individuals face severe punishment, others accused of serious crimes are allowed to operate with impunity.

The situation continues to draw attention both within Nigeria and internationally, highlighting ongoing tensions surrounding security, justice, and freedom of speech in the region.
