The recent outburst by the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, against Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is both unfortunate and unbecoming of a national officer who should understand the weight and responsibility that come with his position.
Dr. Abdullahi’s attempt to ridicule a respected former governor and statesman only exposes the deepening intolerance and internal disarray within the PDP. It is rather ironic that a man whose public conduct and utterances have done little to strengthen his party’s image now presumes to lecture others on leadership and loyalty. Instead of reflecting on the causes of the party’s dwindling relevance, he has chosen to indulge in petty name-calling and personal attacks, a display that does nothing but further diminish the PDP’s already fragile credibility.
Rt. Hon. Ugwuanyi’s political journey has always been guided by conviction, not convenience. His decision to support his successor and the current Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Mbah, demonstrates his continued commitment to peace, unity, and the progress of Enugu State and Nigeria at large. No measure of misplaced bitterness or political envy can diminish that.
As an outstanding legislator and two-term Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi built a legacy anchored on quiet strength, vision, and genuine service. He chaired the House Committee on Marine Transport, where he championed reforms that strengthened transparency and public accountability. As Governor, he transformed rural infrastructure, expanded access to quality education and healthcare, empowered youths, and maintained Enugu as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful and secure states.
His ability to maintain cordial relationships across party lines, including with the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, reflects political maturity, not weakness.
Dr. Abdullahi would do well to focus on rebuilding his party’s integrity and addressing the crises that continue to erode its foundation, rather than attacking men whose records of service and character remain beyond reproach. Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s relevance stands firmly on integrity, performance, and the enduring respect of Nigerians across political divides.
