Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani attributes the All Progressives Congress (APC) historic victory in the traditionally Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-dominated Chikun Federal Constituency to his administration’s inclusive and meritocratic leadership style.
Speaking with TVC Television, Governor Sani highlighted how this political milestone marks a significant shift in Kaduna’s electoral landscape since democracy was restored in 1999.
“APC has never before won an election in Chikun Federal Constituency. It used to be a stronghold of the PDP, with Labour Party clinching it only two years ago before the death of their member led to a by-election,” he said. “This time, APC secured seventy percent of the votes, demonstrating a clear change.”
Reflecting on the factors behind the win, Governor Sani emphasised, “The reason you are witnessing these changes in Kaduna is simply because of our approach to governance.” The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed the APC candidate’s victory with 34,580 votes, significantly outpacing the PDP candidate’s 11,491 votes.
Governor Sani also addressed divisive political narratives centred on religion and ethnicity, stating, “Some recent debates focused unnecessarily on the number of Muslims and Christians in Kaduna. As a leader, I do not govern based on religion, party, or ethnicity.”
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fairness, justice, and equity as the foundation of governance since taking office.
