Nigerian troops have arrested a suspected militia member believed to have participated in the recent attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, military authorities have said.

The suspect, identified as Paul Kolsen, was apprehended on Sunday afternoon at about 3:30pm at Farm Centre, where he was reportedly receiving treatment for a gunshot wound allegedly sustained during the July 2 assault on the institute.

According to security sources, the arrest followed intelligence-led operations launched after armed assailants attacked the prestigious policy institute, prompting an intensified military manhunt for those responsible.

Investigators believe the gunshot injury suffered by the suspect was sustained during the attack, although authorities said further investigations are underway to determine the extent of his involvement and identify other members of the armed group.

The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in Plateau State, where recurring violence involving armed groups has continued to pose a major security challenge.

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, located in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area, is Nigeria’s foremost public policy think tank and regularly hosts senior government officials, military officers and participants of the Senior Executive Course.

Security agencies have intensified surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations in the aftermath of the attack, with authorities pledging to bring all those responsible to justice.

No official statement has yet been issued on whether additional arrests have been made, but security operatives say investigations remain ongoing as efforts continue to track down other suspects linked to the incident.
