A prominent stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Professor Anthony Agbazuere, has declared that the South-East voting pattern will swing in favour of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Saturday at Ikem Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, during a stakeholders’ meeting of APC members from the old Aba bloc, Agbazuere urged political opponents to shelve their ambitions and allow Tinubu to complete his national agenda.
According to him, the president’s bold economic policies—particularly the removal of fuel subsidy—have stabilised Nigeria’s economy, redirected resources to the grassroots, and restored hope for ordinary citizens.
“President Tinubu is an exceptional leader. He inherited an economy where money was being recklessly printed, mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren. He stopped that false life, removed the exploitative fuel subsidy, and channelled funds back to states and local governments. Only those with little understanding will dispute his vision,” Agbazuere said.
He noted that the president’s support for the establishment of the South-East Development Commission—a body tasked with rebuilding the region from the scars of the civil war—has further endeared him to the people of the zone.
Agbazuere also hailed Tinubu’s push for local government autonomy, recalling the landmark Supreme Court judgment that directed councils’ funds to be released directly to them, despite resistance from some governors.
On education, he lauded the president’s student loan scheme aimed at ensuring that no Nigerian child from a poor background is denied access to university education.
“This is the first government to boldly say: children of poor parents must not be sent away from universities. With student loans, they can study now and pay back later when employed. This is leadership with vision,” he added.
He further praised Tinubu for modernising Nigeria’s tax regime, ensuring low-income earners are exempted from tax obligations, while the wealthy shoulder greater responsibility.
“Who else has ever done this? If you’re unemployed in Nigeria today, you don’t pay tax. That is Tinubu’s reform,” he stressed.
Agbazuere insisted that President Tinubu must be allowed to complete two terms, after which others with alternative ideas can present their visions.
Meanwhile, the convener of APC in the Ukwa la Ngwa bloc, Chief Ebere Nwachukwu, said the meeting was organised to foster unity among party members ahead of the APC congress in October. He added that the party was working assiduously to clinch the Abia State governorship in 2027.
