Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism, saying strengthening Nigeria’s security forces remains a top priority and a personal burden shared by his government.

Speaking on Monday at the opening of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Tinubu said the fight against insecurity has kept leaders “sleepless at night”, but assured Nigerians that victory is inevitable.

“I am living here again to further find means to strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism. That, I promise you, is what has kept all of us sleepless at night. But I assure you, we will win,” the president said.

Tinubu also commended the governors of Borno, Kaduna and Katsina states for what he described as notable improvements in security across their regions, acknowledging their efforts in tackling banditry and insurgency.

Nigeria has grappled for more than a decade with armed violence, particularly in the north, where attacks by armed groups and insurgents have displaced millions and strained local economies.

The president said collaboration between federal and state governments remains critical to restoring peace and stability, stressing that his administration will continue to invest in intelligence, equipment and personnel to support the country’s security architecture.

The National Economic Council, which brings together state governors and key federal officials, is expected to deliberate on security funding and broader economic challenges facing the country.
