President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians for patience, urging citizens to give his administration more time to complete ongoing socio-economic reforms and assuring the nation that current policies are steering Nigeria toward long-term prosperity.
The President’s message was delivered on Friday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, who represented him at a special Juma’at prayer held at the National Mosque, Abuja. The service formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s national Independence Anniversary.
Addressing worshippers, Abbas conveyed the President’s message of hope, stating that the administration remains focused on rectifying systemic challenges and missed opportunities inherited from past governments.
“Nigeria has come of age,” Abbas said. “When we reflect on the journey from independence to date, it has undoubtedly been a mixed one, bedevilled by numerous challenges as well as opportunities. But we thank Almighty Allah for preserving our lives and granting us peace to witness this historic occasion.”

Reassuring citizens amid economic hardship, President Tinubu urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the nation’s recovery process, emphasizing that ongoing structural adjustments will ultimately yield stability, security, and economic growth.
“My message to the country on behalf of Mr. President, the Senate President, and the National Assembly is that citizens should not lose hope,” Abbas stated. “Peace and development are returning to this country. Things will get better as we progress.”
The President acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by citizens across the country, maintaining that these sacrifices are laying the foundation for lasting progress.
“The cumulative mistakes and missed opportunities of the past are actively being corrected by this administration,” Abbas added. “Nigeria is on the right path. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and the sacrifices made by Nigerians will pave the way for national greatness. We ask citizens to give this government the opportunity to finish the good work it has started.”
The special Juma’at service is among the official religious and civic events scheduled by the Federal Government leading up to the October 1 Independence celebrations, which are being marked on a low-key scale this year.
