– President Bola Tinubu has held another closed-door meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, in a renewed effort to defuse the lingering political crisis in the oil-rich state.

Presidency sources confirmed that the meeting took place on Sunday night at the President’s official residence inside Aso Villa, Abuja.

While details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed, the talks come amid rising tensions over leadership recognition within Rivers State and stalled moves by lawmakers to impeach Governor Fubara.

The latest intervention follows reports that President Tinubu had earlier urged Fubara, an APC member, to formally recognise Wike — a PDP member who serves in the APC-led federal government — as the party’s political leader in the state.

Observers say the demand has further complicated an already fragile political landscape, as both men continue to vie for control of Rivers’ political structure.

Sunday’s meeting is believed to be at least the fourth time Tinubu has stepped in to mediate between the former allies, whose fallout has paralysed governance and deepened divisions within the state assembly.

Despite repeated presidential interventions, the crisis shows little sign of easing, raising concerns about political stability in one of Nigeria’s most strategically important states.
