Hon. Sada Soli, the representative for Jibia/Kaita Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed the view that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received inadequate advice regarding the tax reform bills.
During an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Soli emphasized that the North’s response to the bill was made with Nigeria’s best interests in mind. He criticized the drafting of the bill, claiming it lacked professionalism and did not adhere to the proper drafting process.
Soli stated, “We should be fair to the President. For any decision a President makes, he relies on the advice of others. In this case, I believe he was poorly advised. The individuals who drafted these bills did a subpar job, as they mistakenly referred to them as acts. Upon reviewing the bills, it’s clear they were not crafted by professional drafters.”
He continued, “Let’s give the President some credit. He is just one person who depends on the counsel of his advisors. The bills did not follow the standard procedures they should have. Bola Tinubu is known for his political acumen and is an inclusive politician. I must acknowledge that when he recognized the potential issues with the bills, he subjected them to thorough scrutiny. He consulted with governors, instructed the Senate to collaborate with the Attorney General of the Federation, and engaged with the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives for a comprehensive review before considering the bills.”
