President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met behind closed doors with Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting comes barely two days before the All Progressives Congress flags off its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24, 2026.

Our correspondent spotted Akpabio’s official Mercedes sedan driving off the Villa forecourt at about 4:45 p.m. The meeting lasted about an hour.

The purpose of the meeting and the issues discussed could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

The APC will formally launch its nationwide presidential campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, ahead of the presidential election on January 16, 2027.

The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said on Tuesday after briefing Tinubu that preparations were complete.

A campaign council list released in August named Tinubu as chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Yilwatda as vice chairmen, and former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari as Director-General.

It named Akpabio as Deputy Director-General (South). The council was inaugurated on October 14.

While appointing four national commissioners and two resident electoral commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday, October 16, Tinubu asked the Senate to expedite their confirmation.

A day earlier, the Presidency announced it would transmit the National Policing Bill to the National Assembly by October 29.
