President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, one of the largest estates in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and has named the institution after himself.
In a letter dated January 16, 2025, addressed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the federal government’s decision to create the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic. The new institution aims to enhance technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training in alignment with national education policies.
Dr. Alausa’s letter, which he personally signed, requested Minister Wike to propose potential locations for both temporary and permanent sites for the polytechnic’s establishment in Gwarinpa. He noted that a technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) would visit and inspect the recommended sites, with final approval contingent on their findings.
Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), praised President Tinubu for the approval of the new polytechnic, highlighting its significance for Gwarinpa and the broader community. In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister for his pivotal role in realizing the aspirations of the residents.
Maikalangu described the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa as a “dream come true,” emphasizing its potential to contribute positively to the development of FCT residents. He also noted the historic appointment of Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, an FCT native and former two-term member of the House of Representatives, as a minister, marking a significant milestone for the region.
