President-elect Donald Trump plans to sign executive orders on Monday that will declare the U.S. government recognizes only two sexes—male and female. The orders will also aim to eliminate what the administration describes as “radical and wasteful” diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within federal agencies, according to senior White House officials.
These executive orders are part of Trump’s broader “restoring sanity” agenda, as reported by NBC News. An incoming official detailed the gender-related order during a phone call ahead of Trump’s swearing-in, framing it as a measure to “defend women from gender ideology extremism and restore biological truth to the federal government.”
The executive order mandates that the federal government use the term “sex” instead of “gender” and directs the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security to ensure that official government documents, such as passports and visas, accurately reflect an individual’s sex. The order will also prohibit taxpayer funding for gender-transition health care and enforce privacy in intimate spaces within facilities such as prisons, migrant shelters, and rape crisis centers.
Throughout his campaign, Trump emphasized his commitment to rolling back protections for transgender and nonbinary individuals, a stance highlighted in television advertisements, including one that frequently aired in key swing states like Pennsylvania. One notable ad stated, “Kamala is for them/them. President Trump is for you.”
Additionally, the second order aims to terminate what the administration characterizes as “radical and wasteful” diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and preferential treatment within the federal government.
