Nigeria’s Super Falcons have once again cemented their status as the undisputed giants of African women’s football, scooping the prestigious Women’s Team of the Year award at the 2025 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards in Rabat.

The historic win on Wednesday night comes as a powerful affirmation of the team’s dominance, fresh from their triumphant campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

“This award is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unyielding spirit of every player, the technical crew, and the entire Nigerian football family,” an elated team spokesperson said after receiving the glittering trophy. “It is for every young girl in Nigeria who dreams of wearing the green and white. We are not just a team; we are a symbol of resilience.”

The nine-time FIFA Women’s World Cup participants and record 10-time African champions faced stiff competition for the honour, seeing off challenges from Ghana’s Black Queens and the host nation’s Atlas Lionesses. Their victory, however, was widely anticipated following a near-flawless WAFCON performance where they lifted the trophy with a compelling display of skill and tactical discipline.

The award adds another glittering chapter to the storied legacy of the Super Falcons, reinforcing their influence in shaping the women’s game across the continent.

The celebration in Rabat was part of a triumphant night for Nigerian football, further illuminated by the success of goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who secured her third consecutive CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.

“Seeing Chiamaka win again and the team get its deserved recognition is incredibly fulfilling,” a member of the Nigerian delegation noted. “It shows that our football is on the right path. These victories are not accidental; they are earned on the training pitch and on the field of play.”
