The Nigeria Police Force has issued a fresh warning to its personnel to desist from engaging in unauthorised VIP escort duties, reiterating that any officer found violating this directive will face strict disciplinary action.

In a statement circulated on Monday, the Force Headquarters stressed that the practice of providing private escort services without official approval undermines operational integrity and diverts manpower from core policing responsibilities.

The warning follows renewed reports that some officers have continued to align themselves with politicians, businessmen, and other influential individuals in exchange for personal gain. The police described such conduct as “unprofessional, unethical, and a breach of established protocols.”

According to the statement, only officers formally assigned through the Inspector-General of Police’s office or designated formations are permitted to undertake VIP protection duties. Any unauthorised deployment, it added, exposes officers to risk and compromises public safety.

The Force urged commanders at all levels to strictly enforce the directive and ensure that erring officers are sanctioned. It also encouraged members of the public to report any cases of illegal police escorts to the nearest police formation or via official complaint channels.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the proper allocation of personnel in line with operational demands across the country.
