Senegal reigned supreme on Sunday night, defeating hosts Morocco 1-0 after a grueling period of extra time to clinch the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

The decisive moment came in the 94th minute when midfielder Pape Gueye unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the penalty area. The ball soared into the top corner, leaving the Moroccan goalkeeper with no chance and silencing the home crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Despite Morocco’s home-field advantage and a boisterous atmosphere in Rabat, Senegal’s disciplined defense and Gueye’s moment of individual brilliance proved the difference. This victory cements Senegal’s status as a powerhouse of African football, while the Atlas Lions fall just short of a historic title on home soil.
