Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio returned to Abuja early Monday, dismissing swirling rumors of a critical illness and hospitalization in London, calling them baseless and affirming his robust health.
Akpabio, who touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 4:00 a.m., was greeted by a crowd of senators, aides, and supporters at the presidential wing. The Senate leader had been in London for a brief vacation following his attendance at the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29-31, 2025.
Speaking to journalists at the airport, Akpabio quashed speculation about his health with confidence. “There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle,” he said, emphasizing that his London stopover was purely for rest. He also promised Nigerians a reinvigorated parliamentary session as the Senate prepares to resume.
The Senate president’s return and upbeat demeanor aim to put to rest concerns about his well-being, signaling a focus on stronger legislative engagements in the weeks ahead.
