Troops operating under Operation Enduring Peace have shot dead a suspected armed militia member in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, following an attempted rifle snatching and escape during a security operation.
The suspect was arrested on September 4, 2025, at Kaskra, Barkin Ladi, found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer for the operation, confirmed the suspect’s involvement in multiple criminal activities in the area.
“During interrogation, he confessed and agreed to assist by leading us to the hideout of his accomplices for weapons recovery,” Major Zhakom said. However, on September 5, while on a follow-up mission, the suspect attempted to flee, forcing troops to open fire, resulting in his death. His body has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
“Troops of 3 Division/JTF Operation Enduring Peace remain committed to eradicating armed criminal elements and securing the Joint Operations Area,” Major Zhakom emphasised in his statement.
