Abeokuta, Nigeria – Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has asserted that the party will secure the presidency in 2027. Speaking at a meeting with SDP members and executives in Abeokuta on Saturday, Adebayo, alongside former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung, expressed strong optimism about the party’s future.
“One thing that God is telling me is that there will be an SDP president in the villa in 2027,” Adebayo declared, addressing party members led by State Chairman Yinka Ola-Williams. “For the first time in a long time, we will have people who care for the people. Let’s remain focused.”
Adebayo clarified that the SDP’s stance is not against President Bola Tinubu personally, but rather against the prevailing national issues. “We are not against Tinubu as a person, but we are against hunger, inflation, poverty, insecurity, unemployment. That’s what we are against,” he emphasized.
Addressing concerns about alleged party hijack, Adebayo assured members that the National Working Committee (NWC) only issues membership cards through state and local government executives. “We have spoken to the National Chairman and the NWC. He said there’s no counterfeiting of anything. Any card that’s not given through the state, LG and executives is not from the SDP,” he stated.
State Chairman Yinka Ola-Williams urged those interested in the party’s vision to join forces and work towards a government that prioritizes poverty alleviation, improved healthcare, and enhanced education. He called for unity and collaborative effort to achieve the party’s goals.
