The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Oduh, citing allegations of gross misconduct.
The move was announced during a plenary session on Thursday, presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule. Majority Leader Major Jack presented the notice of allegations against Governor Fubara, while Deputy Majority Leader Linda Stewart read the notice regarding Deputy Governor Oduh.
According to the House, the allegations involve violations of the Nigerian Constitution. The notice was signed by 26 members of the Assembly.
Speaker Amaewhule confirmed that the notice will be served to the Governor within the next seven days. This development follows a period of heightened political tension in the state.
