The screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, alongside 64 other aspirants, from participating in the party’s forthcoming state assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
The decision effectively bars the affected candidates from contesting for tickets under the APC platform, narrowing the field ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive selection process.
According to party sources, a majority of those disqualified are known loyalists of the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, a development likely to deepen existing political tensions within the state’s ruling elite.
While the party has not publicly detailed the full grounds for the exclusions, the move is already being interpreted as a significant reshaping of internal party dynamics in Rivers ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Analysts say the disqualifications could further intensify factional struggles within the APC in the oil-rich state, where loyalty battles have increasingly defined political alignments.
