Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos, has officially dumped the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a welcome event in Alimosho Local Government Area, Rhodes-Vivour hailed the ADC as the coalition capable of rescuing Nigeria from the grip of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I’m joining the ADC coalition because it is designed to save Nigeria,” he declared. “Since the 2023 elections, I have maintained that the opposition cannot afford to remain divided. Unity is the only way forward.”
The Lagos politician accused the APC of relying on thuggery, violence and intimidation to silence opposition voices, warning that failure to resist such tactics would rob the people of true representation.
“We must build a strong coalition to free Nigeria from those who have hijacked governance for selfish gain,” he said. “If we normalise this brand of politics, Nigerians will lose their voice and government will cease to serve their interests.”
Expressing optimism about his new political home, Rhodes-Vivour added: “I’m delighted to be part of this family. I believe the ADC can chart a new course for our beloved country. My prayer is that our leaders find the wisdom to unite and deliver genuine good governance.”
Rhodes-Vivour has previously hinted at another run for the Lagos governorship in 2027. In a recent interview with Channels Television, he affirmed: “By God’s grace, yes. But only if the opposition comes together. Without unity, contesting in 2027 would be a waste of time in a country under state capture.”
