Nigeria’s Accountant-General of the Federation is expected to appear before the House of Representatives today as lawmakers intensify their investigation into the alleged allocation of ₦1.32 billion in the 2025 budget for the Public Finance and Infrastructure Policy Committee (PFIPC).
The hearing forms part of the National Assembly’s ongoing oversight of public spending, with legislators seeking explanations over the budgetary provision, its approval process and how the funds are intended to be utilised.
Members of the House committee leading the probe are expected to question the Accountant-General on the rationale behind the allocation, compliance with public financial regulations and whether due process was followed in preparing and implementing the budget.
The investigation follows growing public scrutiny over allocations to government agencies and special intervention programmes amid calls for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
Lawmakers have maintained that the probe is aimed at ensuring taxpayers’ money is spent in line with the law and in the public interest. They are also expected to seek clarification on the legal basis for the allocation and the roles of the agencies involved.
