The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, as its new national chairman, replacing Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who resigned citing health concerns.
The decision followed a late-night meeting on 23 July 2025 between President Bola Tinubu and APC governors, with the party’s National Executive Committee set to ratify the choice today.
Yilwatda, 56, from Plateau State, brings academic flair and political experience as a former university lecturer and INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner.
His Christian faith and North-Central roots align with the APC’s zoning strategy and inclusivity push, party insiders say. “He’s young, credible, and untainted by political baggage,” a senior official noted.
As the APC grapples with internal rifts and waning popularity, Yilwatda’s leadership is expected to refresh the party’s image ahead of future elections.
