A 14-year-old girl, identified as Felicia, is in a coma after allegedly being macheted by a suspected rapist in Obete Nchina Village, Ntighauzo community of Obingwa council area, Abia State.

According to the victim’s father, Mr. Chijioke Anaba, Felicia was attacked while fetching firewood with friends in a bush within the village. The suspect, Chinazum Ubani, allegedly attempted to rape her. When she resisted, he reportedly inflicted deep machete wounds to her head, leg, and hand before fleeing the scene.

Felicia’s companions alerted her family, who found her unconscious due to severe blood loss. Mr. Anaba stated that they rushed her to the hospital and reported the incident at the Eastern Ngwa Police Division.
In a disturbing allegation, Mr. Anaba claimed that the police demanded a payment of N30,000 to register the case, which he complied with. While the police have since apprehended the suspect, Mr. Anaba expressed fear that Chinazum, who hails from the same village, might be released and pose a continued threat to his family.

“My daughter had fallen into a coma when she was rescued… We took her to the hospital and lodged a report with the police at the Eastern Ngwa Division,” Mr. Anaba recounted. “The police demanded N30,000 to investigate the matter, which I paid. They have arrested the suspect, but from what’s happening, I’m afraid that Chinazum may be released from detention to continue his attack and kill my daughter.”
Mr. Anaba further disputed the police’s claim that the suspect is mentally unstable, asserting, “The police should do their job because the boy is now a risk to the people in the village. The police are saying he is a madman, but it’s not true.”

He appealed to the wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, to intervene and provide assistance to his daughter, who he fears may suffer permanent disabilities due to the severity of her injuries.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
