Police Inspector Opens Fire on Colleagues in Port Harcourt, Two Injured

An Inspector of Police, identified as Victor Okus, has reportedly shot two of his colleagues following an altercation in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, caused panic in the area as residents and passers-by fled the scene on hearing gunshots. The circumstances leading to the altercation remain unclear, but sources said the disagreement escalated before the officer opened fire.

The two injured officers were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Their current condition has not been officially disclosed as at the time of filing this report.

Police authorities in Rivers State have confirmed the incident and said the suspect has been taken into custody. The state police command said an internal investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident and to establish whether disciplinary or criminal charges will be filed.

A senior police source described the incident as “deeply unfortunate” and assured the public that appropriate measures would be taken to prevent a recurrence.

The Rivers State Police Command also appealed for calm, urging residents to go about their lawful activities while investigations continue.
