Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced plans to recruit over 1,000 young people into Operation Rainbow, the state-backed community policing outfit, as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.

Speaking on Sunday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Jos, during the opening of the 2025/2026 Legal Year, Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice, security, and unity.

Reflecting on judicial challenges, he praised judicial officers for their resilience despite limited resources and disclosed that the state had begun paying outstanding entitlements to retired judges. He also cautioned judges on the proper use of discretion, warning that its abuse carries heavy moral consequences.

On security, the governor emphasised that the new recruits would serve as both the “first and last line of defence,” complementing conventional security agencies, while warning against those who profit from insecurity.

He further stressed the importance of unity among Christians, declaring: “We have no other agenda than to make Plateau better than we met it. Though there may be giants on our way, by the grace of God, we shall overcome.”

The service was attended by judicial officers, clergy, and legal practitioners. Delivering the homily, Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Paul Pam urged Christians to live righteously and prayed for Nigeria’s leaders, while commending the governor for his peacebuilding and infrastructure initiatives.

Plateau State Chief Judge, Justice David Mann, also thanked God for sustaining the judiciary and prayed for guidance in the new legal year
