Following the disruption of academic activities and safety concerns at the University of Jos, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has ordered the immediate evacuation of all Kogi State students studying at the institution.
The directive comes amid escalating insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where recent attacks have reportedly claimed several lives, sparking fear among residents and the student community.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo described the decision as a proactive measure to protect Kogi indigenes in Jos. He noted that students, particularly those living off-campus in less secure environments, are especially vulnerable during such crises, making urgent government intervention necessary.
The Governor has deployed his Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Hon. Oladele Nihi, along with a delegation that has already arrived in Jos to coordinate a safe and orderly evacuation. According to the Governor, all arrangements have been finalised to transport the students back to Kogi State under adequate security, in collaboration with relevant agencies.
Governor Ododo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their swift intervention in restoring calm to Plateau State. He expressed confidence in ongoing efforts to restore peace and bring the perpetrators of the recent Jos crisis to justice.
The Governor reassured parents and guardians that the safety and welfare of Kogi students remain a top priority of his administration. He urged the students to remain calm and cooperate fully with officials managing the evacuation process.
Reaffirming his commitment to the protection of lives and property of all Kogi citizens, both within and outside the state, Governor Ododo pledged to continue monitoring the situation in Jos closely and to take further action as necessary.
