former presidential candidate and Labour Party figurehead, Peter Obi, has thrown his weight behind candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi announced his support in a statement released on Monday, citing the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party as the reason for the switch. According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not recognised any Labour Party candidates for the elections scheduled to take place on August 16, 2025.

“Due to the internal crisis within the Labour Party, INEC has not recognised any of our candidates for the bye-elections,” Obi stated.

“I humbly urge every member of the Obidient movement and the COPDEM family to vote for the coalition political party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), in their respective states.”

Obi also shared campaign photos of the endorsed ADC candidates across his social media platforms, reaffirming his commitment to grassroots democracy and credible leadership, regardless of party lines.

This endorsement marks a pivotal shift as Obi calls on his extensive support base—popularly known as the “Obidient” movement—to rally behind the ADC to ensure continuity of reform-minded leadership in Anambra and beyond.

With the Labour Party in turmoil, this strategic alignment with the ADC could reshape political calculations in the region and offer a temporary yet impactful alternative for Obi’s supporters at the polls.
