The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to take responsibility for the political tensions surrounding his administration, insisting that he “willingly travelled the path” that led to the current crisis.
The party’s response followed recent remarks attributed to Governor Fubara, who suggested that the PDP had failed to provide adequate support amid the escalating political dispute involving the state government and key party stakeholders.
In a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Directorate, the party maintained that it had consistently shown restraint and maturity in dealing with the internal issues in Rivers State. It argued that the governor’s grievances were self-inflicted and stemmed from decisions he took without broad consultation.
According to the PDP, Governor Fubara had been given “every political latitude and institutional backing” necessary to lead effectively but instead chose to pursue a confrontational approach that alienated party structures and intensified divisions within the state.
The statement added that the PDP remained committed to resolving the crisis legally and democratically, noting that the party would not be drawn into what it described as attempts to shift blame or rewrite recent political events.
The party urged the governor to prioritise governance and work towards restoring stability in Rivers State, stressing that collective responsibility was essential for the party to move forward.
The PDP also reaffirmed its loyalty to Nigerians and its members nationwide, pledging to maintain internal discipline while safeguarding the party’s democratic values.
