A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory, Silas Ashilolo, has called on the party’s leadership to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over what he described as consistent acts of anti-party activity.
Ashilolo’s remarks followed Wike’s public endorsement of Christopher Maikalangu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election, despite the PDP fielding Zadna Dintani as its flagbearer.
According to him, “This is not just another case of indiscipline. It is an act of brazen anti-party activity that strikes at the very soul of our party. If the PDP national leadership under Ambassador Umar Damagun does not act decisively to expel Wike from our fold, we risk sending the wrong message to loyal members and ordinary Nigerians who still believe in our capacity to rescue the country in 2027.”
The party stalwart insisted that Wike’s actions undermine party unity and contradict the values upon which the PDP was built. “How do we explain Wike’s repeated endorsement of APC candidates and his constant disparagement of the PDP leadership? The PDP is not a personal estate of anybody. It is a collective project, and those who do not respect its values cannot remain in its fold,” he stressed.
Ashilolo warned that delaying disciplinary action could prove costly ahead of the 2027 general elections. He argued that “if we wait until 2026 or 2027 to discipline Wike, it will be too late. By then, he would have caused irreversible damage, undermined our candidates, and weakened our structures. The time to act is now.”
He urged National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagun to take firm steps to protect the party’s integrity. “Leadership is not about appeasing the loudest or the richest. Leadership is about protecting the institution you have been entrusted with,” Ashilolo stated.
Calling for Wike’s removal, he said such a decision would send a strong message of discipline and restore confidence among members. “Expelling Wike will not only cleanse the PDP of his constant sabotage; it will also demonstrate that loyalty is not optional. The PDP is greater than any individual, and it is time we proved that,” he added.
