Victor Osimhen has told Galatasaray teammates he is prepared to “take risks” and play through pain in Monday’s explosive Super Lig derby against arch-rivals Fenerbahce, despite still recovering from a hamstring injury.
The Super Eagles striker has missed Gala’s last two matches after picking up the knock while on international duty with Nigeria during the 2026 World Cup play-off final loss to DR Congo.
Club doctors have been cautious with his recovery, but the 26-year-old forward is pushing to be involved in the top-of-the-table clash that could decide the early title race.
“I know how big this Fenerbahce game is for the fans. I felt the fire last season. The club brought me here for moments like this. If I have to take a risk, I will go out there and give 100 per cent,” Osimhen reportedly told teammates, according to Turkish journalist Mehmet Özcan.
Galatasaray currently lead the Super Lig with 32 points, just one ahead of second-placed Fenerbahce.
Osimhen has a strong record against Jose Mourinho’s side: last season on loan he scored twice in a Turkish Cup win and provided an assist in a 3-1 league victory in September.
This term he has managed three league goals in nine appearances and nine goals in 12 games across all competitions since making the permanent switch from Napoli in the summer.
Turkish authorities are taking no chances with security a record 16,000 police and private security personnel will be deployed around the Rams Park Stadium for what is always one of the most heated fixtures in world football.
Whether coach Okan Buruk will allow the Nigerian to start or use him from the bench remains the big question as Galatasaray chase a crucial victory to stay top.
