The Bauchi State Police Command has identified critical shortages of manpower, arms, and ammunition as major constraints undermining its operational effectiveness in tackling criminal activities across the state.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu disclosed this on Thursday during an official visit by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Vungmoh Kwaimo, to the command headquarters.

Despite the challenges, Aliyu noted that the command had recorded significant successes in preserving Bauchi’s status as one of the most peaceful states in the country. However, he emphasized that the personnel shortfall continued to hamper deployment capacity and slow response times to emerging security threats.

“At this point, it is pertinent to intimate the Assistant Inspector-General of Police on a few pressing concerns affecting the command’s operational capabilities,” Aliyu stated. “The shortage of manpower is affecting deployment and our ability to respond swiftly, particularly in the light of increasing security threats across the state.”

He further called for additional personnel for quick intervention duties at the Zone 12 headquarters and urged reinforcement of the command’s overall workforce. The commissioner also stressed the need for more arms and ammunition to effectively sustain ongoing crime-fighting operations.

In response, AIG Kwaimo expressed satisfaction with the command’s achievements and commended the commissioner and his officers for their dedication. He acknowledged the concerns raised and pledged to escalate them to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.

“This is my first visit since assuming office on January 6, 2026,” Kwaimo said. “It reaffirms our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property, while upholding human rights and the rule of law.”

He underscored discipline, accountability, and professionalism as guiding principles of policing, warning that no officer should compromise the force’s integrity. Kwaimo also highlighted the importance of community engagement, intelligence gathering, and the use of technology in modern policing strategies.

“We will examine the challenges highlighted by the Commissioner of Police, particularly the issues of manpower shortages and other operational constraints, and do our best to address them,” he added.

The AIG reiterated that the police mission remains the protection of lives and property with honour and integrity, assuring residents of sustained efforts to strengthen security across the state.
