Ondo 2024 SDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, Dies

Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the 2024 Ondo State governorship election, has passed away. His aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun, confirmed the tragic news on Wednesday morning, revealing that Akingboye died at his residence in Lagos.

“This is a moment of profound sorrow for the family. He leaves behind his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. The family requests privacy during this difficult period,” Iwakun said. He further shared that funeral details will be made available in due time.

Akingboye, popularly known as OBA, was a key contender in the November 16, 2024 gubernatorial race but lost to the incumbent Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The exact cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.

Widely respected for his dedication to progressive values, Akingboye was a significant figure in Ondo’s political scene. His death represents the loss of a passionate advocate for social democracy.
