•Delta Governor urges transparency and visible development amid rising state revenues
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has revealed that states are receiving increased allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), but some governors are allegedly hiding the funds from the public.
Speaking at the groundbreaking of the N39.3 billion Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli North, Oborevwori challenged claims that states are financially struggling, insisting that more money is flowing into their coffers.
“There is money. Use the money, as we are using it in our state. Some want to hide that there is no money; there is money,” he said, calling on governors to channel the improved revenue into impactful projects that enhance citizens’ lives.
The governor’s remarks echo those of Kwara State Governor and Nigeria Governors’ Forum chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who recently acknowledged enhanced state funding following economic reforms.
Oborevwori described the Otovwodo Flyover project as a critical infrastructure intervention aimed at reducing traffic congestion and boosting commerce along the busiest corridors linking Warri, Asaba, and Patani.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance through transparent, accountable use of increased resources and urged residents to bear with temporary disruptions during construction.
“Our goal is to redefine the social contract through strategic infrastructure delivery that improves safety, trade, and travel time,” the governor said.
