Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Police Force has obtained a remand order from the Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Wuse Zone 6, for social media influencer Reno Omokri, alongside former Dunamis Church Pastor Abraham Daniel and two others. The court order follows allegations of defamation made against them by Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis Church.
The order, issued by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel A. Iyanna on January 13, 2025, was granted through an ex-parte motion filed by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. The court has mandated that the defendants be remanded in custody pending further investigation and potential prosecution.
In the ruling, Chief Magistrate Iyanna stated, “The application is hereby granted as prayed,” and directed that the respondents be produced before the court on January 30, 2025.
The remand warrant was initiated following a petition from Patrick O. Okolo, SAN, who accused Omokri and others—including the Gistlover Blog and Kelechi TV—of engaging in defamation.
Reports indicate that the legal troubles for Pastor Abraham Daniel stem from his resignation from Dunamis Church after a decade of service, during which he contributed significantly to the church’s growth. Sources allege that his departure followed a fallout with Pastor Enenche, leading to personal threats and a serious car accident where he was allegedly detained by police officers at the behest of Enenche.
The situation escalated as Daniel faced ongoing threats and was reportedly coerced into deleting social media posts that criticized the church and its leadership. Despite an alleged agreement for compensation following his car accident, Daniel received only a fraction of what was promised, leading to further disputes.
On January 7, 2025, Daniel was summoned by the Force Intelligence Department to address accusations of cyberbullying and criminal defamation. He claims that during his detention, he was pressured to apologize to Pastor Enenche and retract his statements.
