A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of a private jet allegedly linked to fraud, corruption and money laundering tied to the controversial Maiduguri Emergency Power Project awarded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The aircraft — a Hawker 800XP private jet with registration number 5N-AMK — was seized following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to the agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.
Oyewale said the court granted the anti-corruption agency’s request for the permanent forfeiture of the jet, identified by serial number 258553, over its alleged connection to financial crimes surrounding the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP), a contract awarded in 2021.
The ruling marks a major development in ongoing investigations into the power project, which has drawn scrutiny over allegations of misappropriation of public funds and abuse of procurement processes.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of individuals directly linked to the aircraft or whether criminal charges will follow as investigations continue.
