KADUNA — The Nigerian Army will expand the use of advanced technology, drone warfare and intelligence-driven operations to bolster its fight against terrorism, insurgency and other security threats, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of Combat Arms Training (CAT) Week 2026 at Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna, Lt. Gen. Shaibu said modern technological solutions, improved surveillance and enhanced troop coordination are vital to timely responses to emerging threats. “The Nigerian Army would continue to leverage technology to enhance operational effectiveness,” he added.

The week-long programme convened serving and retired senior officers for strategic engagements, lectures and practical demonstrations designed to strengthen the Army’s counterinsurgency and counterterrorism capabilities, Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Apollonia Anele said. She said the event underscored the importance of innovation, adaptability and continuous professional development in addressing evolving security challenges.

Organisers highlighted the integration of drone warfare, combat aviation and advanced training methodologies as critical force multipliers for future operations. The training schedule included live-fire demonstrations by combat arms, displays of various weapon calibres and armoured vehicles, and combined infantry and armour manoeuvre simulations in realistic combat scenarios.

Major General Godwin Mutkut, Commander of the Infantry Corps, commended the COAS for what he called purposeful leadership that had improved troop welfare and strengthened operational efficiency across the Army.

CAT Week 2026 carried the theme “Building Troops’ Resilience through Counter Terrorism Campaigns” and concluded with a Pulling Out Ceremony honouring distinguished retired infantry generals. Military officials said the skills and technologies highlighted during the training will be further integrated into ongoing operations nationwide.
