New Minimum wage: Nasarawa workers start accessing new pay

Civil servants in Nasarawa State have started getting their new salaries of #70, 500 , this was gathered by Observers Times today .

It will be recalled that workers in Nasarawa State embarked on a one week industrial action to press home their demand over the non implementation of the Federal Government package to Nigeria workers.

The situation was however quelled by the Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule, who inspite of the decision taken by workers to down tool, insisted that they should return to work as he will not invoke the phenomenal No work, No Pay policy on them.

Interestingly the organized labour and it members after due dialogue and being convinced that government would act accordingly,called off the strike. This development has further deepens government relationship with it workers in the state

At the time of filing this report in order to authenticate the news about payment of the December salaries with the new minimum wage to civil servants,a senior officer in the state attested to the fact that some persons are already receiving their December salary of #70,500 .

He said though deductions for certain levies were made , but the rumour that some one received #71,000 is not true.

Speaking on the true position of things as regarding the new minimum wage, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Media and Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba confirmed that Engineer Abdullahi Sule the executive governor of Nasarawa State following the agreement between government and the labour leaders has kept to his words,implementation to the new minimum wage has been perfected and. December salaries are being paid based on the agreement so signed.

According to him” You are aware that the government and the organized labour union leaders in the state have reach a pack and agreement signed for the implementation of the new minimum wage.

“So I can authoritatively confirmed to you that workers in the state have started receiving the #70,500 which started this morning” He confirmed.

On whether deductions were made as rumoured ,the SSA to the governor expelled such claims and said government can’t be held responsible for deductions apart from the VAT ,as some of the workers had collected loans from their various banks,so linking deductions of the salaries to government is not at all to be considered ” All I know is that civil servants in the state are already receiving their salaries with the new minimum wage which is structured after the federal government template ” Peter reiterated
