Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has not failed in its constitutional duty of safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.

The former Senate Leader made this known in a statement on Wednesday while commending the Federal Government and the Nigerian military for their decisive intervention in restoring peace to Kirawa, a border community in Borno State recently attacked by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to Ndume, the swift response of the armed forces under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, prevented a tragedy that could have cost many lives.

“Security of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of any government. The present administration has not failed in meeting this constitutional mandate, and its focus on ending insecurity in the North-East is evident in its actions,” the senator stated.

Kirawa, located along Nigeria’s border with Cameroon, was attacked by insurgents who burnt several houses, the palace of the district head, and a military barracks, forcing residents to flee to neighbouring Cameroon. However, the Nigerian Army swiftly deployed reinforcements that repelled the attackers and restored calm to the community.

Ndume commended the soldiers for their bravery and quick response, saying their intervention saved the town from total destruction.

“The courage displayed by our military and their resilience remain laudable. Their quick intervention prevented what could have been a far worse tragedy for the people of Kirawa,” he said.

He urged the military to maintain a permanent presence in the area, noting that Kirawa’s strategic position on the border makes it vulnerable to repeated attacks. The lawmaker also called for stronger cooperation between Nigerian and Cameroonian security agencies to improve intelligence sharing and border patrol operations.

Ndume sympathised with residents affected by the attack and advised them to remain vigilant and supportive of security efforts.

“My appeal to the people of Kirawa is to be alert and to share useful information with the military. They must continue to play their part in safeguarding their community,” he advised.

The senator also praised Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for his continuous efforts in rebuilding destroyed communities and resettling displaced persons.

He applauded President Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the North-East, stating that his administration has demonstrated sincerity in addressing the security challenges confronting the region.

“The Tinubu administration has shown genuine concern for the plight of our people. With sustained government support and the continued resilience of our military, communities like Kirawa will soon regain full stability and normalcy,” Ndume added.

The senator reaffirmed his confidence that with consistent collaboration between federal and state authorities, and the dedication of the armed forces, the North-East will overcome the lingering threats of insurgency and reclaim lasting peace.
