Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the implementation of the 2024 Appropriation Act will be extended to June 2025.
Akpabio spoke on Wednesday at the joint sitting of the senate and house of representatives.
President Bola Tinubu is attending the session to present the 2025 budget.
Akpabio aLao expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu has made significant contributions to Nigeria’s progress.
During his welcome address at the 2025 budget presentation on Wednesday, Akpabio stated, “The President has done his utmost for Nigeria. Your Excellency, your leadership stands as a beacon of hope, guiding us through these challenging times.”
He referenced Tinubu’s earlier remarks, saying, “As you wisely noted, ‘A nation is built not merely by the bricks and mortar of its structures but by the resilience and determination of its people.’ This sentiment resonates profoundly, reminding us that it is the spirit of our citizens that truly defines our nation, beyond the physical structures we create.”
Akpabio further highlighted the positive changes under Tinubu’s administration, noting, “We have seen significant advancements in economic reforms aimed at fostering our nation’s stability and growth. The bold choice to eliminate fuel subsidies, while difficult, demonstrates your steadfast commitment to reallocating resources to vital areas such as health, Education etc .
Your collaboration with the Central Bank has cultivated an environment ripe for investment, and your focus on infrastructure development reflects a visionary commitment to improving the connectivity that fuels our economy. No community in Nigeria is currently under the siege of Boko
Haram,” Akpabio said boastfully.
In addition to lawmakers, those present at the chamber included Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje.
