Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abdullahi Adamu, has declared his readiness to clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Nasarawa State, vowing to defeat Governor Abdullahi Sule and his preferred successor, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
Speaking during a mega rally in Karu Local Government Area on Thursday, Adamu challenged the party leadership to ensure a free and credible primary process, insisting that he remains the candidate to beat if internal democracy is upheld.
“I have the capacity, the experience, and the support of the people to win this election. All we are asking for is a level playing ground,” Adamu told a cheering crowd. “If the primaries are free and fair, I will defeat both Sule and Wadada.”
The former police boss hinged his candidacy on his security expertise, promising to leverage his background to tackle the state’s security challenges.
The Director of Operations and Command for the Adamu Campaign, Adams Useni, described the massive turnout in Karu as a testament to Adamu’s widespread acceptance. “The people are ready for the retired IGP. We are focused on grassroots mobilization and advocating for a participatory democratic process,” Useni said.
Addressing the Governor’s reported endorsement of Senator Wadada, the campaign’s Director of Contact and Mobilisation, Hon. Isa Nathaniel, dismissed the move as inconsequential.
“The governor’s position is a personal opinion; it does not bind the party. More than 3,000 groups have already signaled their support for Adamu. Party members will come out in large numbers to make their choice, and that choice will be Adamu,” Nathaniel stated.
The Karu rally marks an intensification of the former IGP’s consultations as the race for the 2027 Nasarawa governorship gathers momentum.
