A mob of angry youths in Mariga Local Government Area, Niger State, lynched a female food seller identified as Ammaye over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

The incident occurred at Kasuwan Garba. Eyewitnesses said the confrontation started in the nearby community of Igwama. Ammaye, who was a well-known food vendor, reportedly had an argument with a young man said to be her nephew.
The young man had allegedly joked about wanting to marry her “to fulfill the Sunnah,” a comment that prompted her to respond with what locals considered blasphemous remarks.
The matter was reportedly taken to the District Head of Kasuwan Garba, who handed the woman over to security operatives for investigation after she repeated her statements.
Despite efforts by security personnel to protect her, a crowd of agitated youths overpowered them and stoned her to death.

The Chairman of Mariga Local Government, Abbas Adamu, confirmed the incident, adding that calm has been restored to the area.
