The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has joined millions of Nigerians to congratulate Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Imisioluwa Ayanwale, popularly known as Imisi. His congratulatory message, however, has stirred mixed reactions across social media.
Oba Owoade shared a picture of the new reality star on his official Instagram story with a brief message celebrating her victory. “Congratulations to our daughter, Imisi. You have made Oyo proud,” the monarch wrote.
Imisi, a 23-year-old indigene of Oyo State and graduate of the University of Ibadan, clinched the ₦150 million grand prize during the live finale of the show on Sunday, October 5. The announcement was made by media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, as she defeated fellow finalists Dede and Koyin to emerge winner.
During her time in the house, Imisi showcased her Yoruba heritage through her dressing, language, and performances, including the Oyo cultural task that earned her wide recognition. Her strong display of culture reportedly impressed the Alaafin, prompting his public acknowledgment.
While many fans applauded the monarch’s message, others interpreted it differently. Some social media users described the post as a gesture of pride and encouragement for youths, while others questioned the monarch’s interest in the reality show.
A user, @akinolamichael2025, commented, “Na there e dey start.” Another, @omotohposh_201, wrote, “I saw this coming after she did well with the Oyo task.”
However, @iam.n.o.s.a reacted sarcastically, saying, “They will never congratulate the most outstanding students. Lol.”
Others, like @tisefoods.ng, expressed excitement, urging, “Baba Alaafin, please press money for our winner o!”
The reality star, who often referred to Oyo State as her “root of pride,” has continued to receive massive support from fans and well-wishers nationwide.
Imisi’s victory also sparked cultural discussions about the influence of traditional institutions in modern entertainment, with many noting that the Alaafin’s recognition highlights the growing intersection between heritage and pop culture.
