Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has been summoned by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) over allegations relating to the removal of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Tanko Onnoghen.
Malami is accused of abusing his office during the controversial removal of Onnoghen in 2019, a move that drew widespread criticism and legal scrutiny. The CCB’s inquiry will examine whether the Attorney General acted outside the limits of his authority, potentially violating Nigeria’s public office regulations.
The development marks a significant chapter in ongoing debates over judicial independence and accountability in Nigeria. Malami has not yet commented publicly on the summons.
Legal experts suggest the outcome could have far-reaching implications for the governance and conduct of senior officials in the country.
