Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging them to refrain from destabilizing Osun State and to uphold the rule of law rather than resorting to self-help measures.

Speaking on Sunday in Osogbo on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Makinde emphasized the necessity for political leaders to resolve conflicts through legal avenues instead of inciting unrest. He was joined by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, during the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected local government chairmen in Osun.

The PDP Governors’ Forum highlighted the importance of learning from past experiences to prevent Osun from descending into chaos. “Osun should not be turned into a battleground over issues that can be resolved by the judiciary,” Makinde stated firmly.

During his address, Makinde reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to governance and maintaining peace in the region. “We do not want a Wild Wild West scenario. The APC should distance themselves from this approach. Our goal is to peacefully deliver benefits to our people,” he asserted.

In addition, the Oyo State governor cautioned against undermining legal processes. “Nobody should resort to self-help. Even with court judgments, there is a proper process to follow. Allow that process to unfold,” he advised.

Criticizing any potential misuse of federal authority, Makinde remarked, “You cannot use so-called federal might to manipulate the situation. This is a federal arrangement.”

He called on the APC to prioritize peace in Osun, insisting that grievances must be addressed through legal channels. “If anyone has a judgment, there is a procedure for enforcing court decisions. Resorting to self-help is illegal,” he emphasized.

This statement comes amid rising political tensions in Osun. In closing, Makinde extended his congratulations to the newly sworn-in council chairmen.
