A 16-year-old student of Lagoon Secondary School, Lagos, Oyindamola Apampa, has scored an impressive 351 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), placing her among the top-performing candidates this year.

Her score breakdown includes 65 in English Language, 98 in Mathematics, 98 in Physics, and 90 in Chemistry. The remarkable result comes after a previous setback in which her first UTME score was invalidated due to technical issues.

Apampa, in a statement released on Tuesday, revealed that her success was the outcome of “determination, strategic preparation, and divine favour.”

She explained that her initial UTME attempt had yielded a score of 158, but that outcome was later declared inaccurate by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) following widespread complaints of technical glitches across several examination centres.

“In my first UTME attempt, I scored 158. However, the results were widely criticised and later acknowledged by the authorities as inaccurate due to technical glitches affecting several examination centres, including mine,” she said.
“Consequently, the examination body authorised a resit to address these irregularities. In the resit, I achieved a score of 351.”

Apampa said the support she received from her family made a significant difference in her academic journey.
“My parents made our home a positive place for studying. We have a full library in the family living room, in addition to a separate multimedia study room where the whole family often gets together to talk about different topics and help each other learn,” she shared.

She also credited the role of a learning centre in Lekki, Lagos, where she attended UTME preparation classes and mock examinations.
“The frequent mock exams at our learning centre were a great help in my preparation for UTME,” she added.

Head of the learning centre, Osayi Izedonmwen, confirmed that Apampa was one of several students from the facility who recorded high scores. He linked the centre’s 98 per cent pass rate in the 2025 UTME to its blended learning model.

“At Teesas, we are fully IT-equipped to seamlessly support both online and physical learning within a convenient and friendly environment. This has played a key role in helping our students excel,” Izedonmwen said.

Apampa’s performance is consistent with her track record of academic excellence. She previously secured 10 As and one B in her Junior WAEC and was listed on the school’s Honours roll. She has also represented Lagoon Secondary School at international platforms such as the Conrad Challenge, where her team reached the final stage and received a special mention.
